The Opposite Schedule

When the Schedule Changes

My work schedule had been stable for quite some time, which allowed me to participate in activities that required fixed attendance. I no longer had to stay on standby on non-working days like I used to.

But in April, I was informed that, due to staff adjustments, my work hours would temporarily change in May. When I saw my new schedule, I realized that all the workdays had flipped: my previous days off became workdays, and my previous workdays became days off. The bad news was that all the activities I attended, including learning courses, were arranged on my former days off — which now meant I had to stop attending them, even if the courses or activities hadn’t finished. The good news was that by the end of April, most of these activities were already nearing completion, so I didn’t have to skip anything critical or worry about missing essential learning.

This temporary schedule would last for about a month, during which my workload would also increase, making work more exhausting. Since the change was temporary, but not short-term, I couldn’t commit to any activities that required fixed attendance. But in a way, this was fine — with the heavier workload, I could use my days off primarily for working out and relaxation. As I mentioned before, fitness is my core comfort zone; it’s my way to unwind.

Now, the timing for going to the gym has completely flipped, and even the times I go out are entirely reversed. Previously, I went out on weekdays; now, it’s on weekends. In fact, weekends are when most people go out, so there are always a lot of people around — unlike before, when it was relatively quiet. The crowd itself is different too. I used to dislike weekends because shops closed too early, which was inconvenient. But now, I even kind of enjoy going out on weekends.

After a month, in June, my work schedule returned to its original pattern. Although it was just a brief interruption, it made me realize how much my activity schedule depends on my work hours. It reminded me that, in the future, before committing to activities with fixed times, I should try to anticipate whether my work schedule might undergo major changes during that period.
